Abstract
This paper considers the features of the current environmental situation in the Caspian region, as well as the nature of the relationship of coastal states among themselves, in particular, between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. Currently, the negative impacts on the environment are increasing day by day. Accordingly, there is a need to develop scientifically sound ways to solve environmental problems. At the same time, the successful implementation of mechanisms for resolving environmental problems in the Caspian directly depends on the joint approach of all coastal states. In this regard, within the framework of cooperation between the coastal states, further relevant developments of joint state legal mechanisms are needed that would contribute to ensuring the environmental safety of the Caspian Sea. The idea is substantiated that the forum of interregional cooperation can act as a political mechanism for resolving issues of environmental security of the region under consideration.
