Abstract
The paper analyses the main approaches to the study of information society in foreign scientific literature. In particular, such approaches as technological, economic, sociological, spatial, cultural and theoretical knowledge approaches come into focus. Each approach is characterized by identifying its specific features. Using structural-functional and problem analysis methods, the author summarizes and reveals the assumptions, problems and risks in the studied area (including the deterioration of the psychological state of citizens living in an information society, the loss of cultural self-identity, inequality, etc.). The article also discusses both the obstacles to the formation of the information society and the potential opportunities for the achievement and development of this type of society
