Abstract

This article is devoted to the issues of migration processes on the territory of Kazakhstan for the intercensus period 2009-2021 in the context of nation-building and the development of civic identity. The article describes the main trends in internal and external migration of the population. Identification of the causes of population migration and its impact on the process of nation-building is based on the results of a sociological study conducted within the framework of the study BR18574231 «Scientific and methodological foundations of nation-building in Kazakhstan: assessment of modern conditions, trends and projection/evaluative models of the development of a multi-ethnic society», funded by Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In preparing this article, the statistical method of analyzing data from the results of the National Population Census and sociological research (quantitative method) and comparative analysis were used. According to the results of the third National Population Census, the regions remain within the old administrative-territorial boundaries, since administrative-territorial transformations were made after the population census in 2022.

Quantitative sociological research - a mass survey was conducted in 20 regions of the country (cities of republican significance Astana, Almaty and Shymkent and 17 regions).

The article also examines the issues of unifying factors in the process of nation-building and the consolidating potential of migrants.
