Abstract

The concepts of nation, state, and civil society constitute fundamental social constructs that underpin the sustainable and evolutionary development of human civilization. Within this system, civil society plays a pivotal mediating role, uniting individuals to create favorable conditions for collective life. Both the theoretical understanding and the empirical perception of civil society are largely shaped by the historical and cultural context of specific societies.

In contemporary Kazakhstan, civil society is viewed as an integral component of national development. The state actively supports civic initiatives, recognizing their importance within the framework of the new ideological paradigm of a “Just Kazakhstan.” Against this backdrop, the level of public awareness and comprehension of the essence of civil society represents a subject of particular scholarly interest.

This article presents an analysis of how the term “civil society” is understood within popular consciousness. Despite its established presence in the public discourse, the concept is often perceived superficially and ambiguously. The observed low level of awareness, especially among young people, underscores the need to strengthen educational and outreach initiatives.
