Abstract
For the first time in Central Asia, first-ever election of akims of rural districts are being held in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In his message to the people in 2020, President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev noted the importance of electing rural akims. On the initiative of the president, the law was prepared and adopted by the parliament. Six political parties registered in the country actively participated in the elections of akims, and representatives of all political parties in Kazakhstan were elected akims of villages. This is an important reform that will stimulate the political process and increase competition between parties. The elections of akims will contribute to the development of the institution of local self-government, unification of the mechanisms of interaction between the akim and the population through village councils. This is one of the most important and necessary political reforms for Kazakhstan.
This article focuses on the elections of rural akims and provides recommendations on their achievements and directions for improvement.
