Abstract
Abstract. The article was prepared within the framework of the program “Kazakhstan-Russia border: historical context and new geopolitical reality” and is based on the results of the sociological study “Educational migration from the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation”, conducted by the authors in 2018-2021. In the course of the study, citizens of Kazakhstan living in the border area and studying at Russian universities were interviewed. The survey involved 309 respondents – students of 30 universities and 50 specialties. The surveys were conducted in a combination: interviews, online, and by phone. In-depth interviews were also conducted with undergraduate students, residents of the North Kazakhstan region, who were in Kazakhstan during the pandemic. The article reveals the motives of students and the prospects for educational migration. The issue of the influence of international educational mobility on the emigration processes in the Kazakhstan regions bordering Russia is also being studied. The authors identified the Push and Pull factors of the migration process.
